Fund Raiser for Community Service

-Continued collecting prizes for raffle with over 13 items. Goal is to earn $2,000

2015 Community Service Activities

Throughout the Year: Members participated in various Roll and Stroll events going to such various places as museums, a tour of the Governor’s Mansion, live concerts, art exhibitions and plays..

July: Annual “Summer in the City indoor picnic featuring hot dogs, ice cream and various other treats.

September /October

Members contributed arts and crafts supplies to Mike’s Place, a program offered through Meals on Wheels that provides services to individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia

December: Chapter members filled and donated gift bags for Drive-A-Senior clients; donated canned goods for the Bread for All Pantry and helped adopt a needy family for Christmas. Also at this time held our annual Christmas Party and Pot Luck Luncheon.

Other Activities

January-Several members attended a workshop to gain public input to help planners determine how land should be developed throughout Austin.

February- five members of chapter 2426 attended the Leadership Orientation & Action Planning Meeting

July-National AARP Day

Several members and their guests attended the AARP Day Celebration at the Bethany

United Methodist Church, Fellowship Hall, 10010

Anderson Mill Road.


Travel

-The Travel Committee chaired my Dr. Mario Macaluso, arranged for members to participate in three bus trips this year-

March- Forty-one people enjoyed a pleasant trip to Wimberley to see the bluebonnets and to shop in the various downtown shops.

September- a day trip to San Antonio and the Mercado and to enjoy a riverboat ride along the beautiful San Antonio River.

December- a Christmas Lights Tour to see the holiday decorations and lighting exhibitions in Johnson City, Texas

 

Footnote:

A celebration of Nancy Martin’s life was held on January

2, 2016 at Wildflower Church at 4 PM, followed by a soup supper in the community room. Nancy coordinated the Lunch to Go Program for our Chapter for a long time and is greatly missed.
