2009 Community Service Activities

June: Chapter members baked cookies & delivered baskets of cookies to fire and police stations and medical centers on National Day of Service.

June: Cooperated with Austin area chapters to provide AARP Community Day for residents of Travis & Williamson Counties

July: The Chapter held a ?Caribbean Cruise Party? for Alzheimer patients at Elderhaven, an adult care center.  We entertained about 40 patients and staff, and provided refreshments.

September: 8 Chapter members volunteered to man an AARP informational table at a Health & Safety Fair at Conley Guerrero Sr. Center.

September: Cooperated with Austin area chapters to host a National Day of Service Program.

September:  Hosted a National Day Out event for clients at the South Austin Senior Activity Center.

December: Members filled baskets to be delivered to HAND (Helping the Aging, Needy and Disabled) for some of their clients.

8 Chapter leaders attended Chapter Leadership Training on January 27, 2009

2 Chapter members served as Tax Aide Counselors

12 Chapter members attended the Chapter 108 40th Anniversary Party & presented a proclamation honoring Chapter 108.

30 members participated in the Assistance League of Austin?s ?Bus with Us? program, traveling to Boerne.

A membership drive was initiated, resulting in 27 new members joining the chapter.

A travel & social activities committee was established and began planning for monthly social events and some trips.

2008 Community Service Activities

April: Chapter 2426 hosted a Community Conversation on Health Care and Financial Security at SASAC on April 12, 2008

April: Members brought bingo prizes for ElderHaven Adult Day Care Center, which provides services to individuals with Alzheimer?s disease.

May: Chapter members baked cookies & delivered baskets of cookies to fire and police stations and medical centers on National Day of Service.

July: The Chapter held a ?Victorian Tea Party? for Alzheimer patients at Elderhaven, an adult care center.  We entertained about 40 patients and staff, and provided refreshments.

November: 10 Chapter members volunteered to serve the Thanksgiving lunch at SASAC

December: Chapter 2426 sponsored a lunchtime choir concert at SASAC by the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders.  Choir members were given bags of homemade cookies after the concert.

December: Members filled baskets to be delivered to HAND (Helping the Aging, Needy and Disabled) for some of their clients.

Other Activities

11 Chapter leaders attended Chapter Leadership Training on January 15, 2008

2 Chapter representatives distributed Divided We Fail material at the site of the Obama-Clinton debate on February 21, 2008

12 Chapter members attended AARP Heart Healthy Texas, an all-day health activity, on February 23, 2008

A committee met on March 28, 2008 and conducted an evaluation of Chapter 2426, using ?Chapter Checkup? developed by AARP State Support and Volunteerism Department.  The chapter attained a score of 117 out of a possible 150, placing the chapter in the ?Very Good? category.  Membership and Governance were the 2 areas most in need of improvement.

2007 Community Service Activities

May: 12 chapter members baked cookies & 10 members delivered 13 baskets of cookies to 12 fire and/or police stations and medical centers on National Day of Service.

July: Christmas in July at Govalle Care Center.  Refreshments, entertainment by the Rocking Chairettes, and gifts of stuffed animals & new socks were provided to the 100 residents.

August: Chapter cooperated with South Austin Senior Activity Center to conduct National Day Out at the Center.  Over 100 attended the activity that included information tables and 2 speakers.  9 chapter members assisted at the Chapter 2426 table.  2 local Target stored contributed prizes and volunteers.

September: Chapter cooperated with Austin Community Team to organize & present AARP Livable Communities Day at St. Louis Church on September 15.  9 chapter members manned the chapter booth.

December: Chapter members volunteered to serve at the Christmas Party held by Austin Services for the Elderly.  Members also filled baskets to be delivered to Austin Services for the Elderly for some of their clients.

2006 Community Service Activities

May: National Day of Service, 5 members volunteered at the Capitol Area food bank, visited in nursing homes & the homebound, took cookies to firemen.

July: Chapter sponsored ?Christmas in July & Everybody?s Birthday? at Monte Siesta Nursing home.

August: National Night Out.  Many members visited neighborhood activities.

October: We helped sponsor Livable Communities Day; our chapter manned a table, and worked in the health van.
